Corfu Getting Around

Corfu's bus service radiates from the capital. There are two terminals: the islandwide green bus service is based on Avramíou, and the suburban blue bus system, which also serves nearby resorts such as Benítses and Dhassi? is based in Platía San Rocco (Platía G. Theotóki). Islandwide services stop between 6 and 8pm, suburban ones at around 10pm. Printed English timetables are available for both and can be picked up at the tourist office. Avramíou also serves Athens and Thessaloníki, and sells combined bus-and-ferry tickets. Major ferry lines have franchises on Ethnikís Andistásis opposite the New Port: Minoan (tel 06610/25 000, fax 46 555), Strintzis (tel 06610/81 222, fax 26 660), Anek (tel 06610/24 504, fax 36 935), Fragline (tel 06610/38 089, fax 35 416), Ventouris (tel 06610/32 664) and Adriatica (tel 06610/38 089). The Petrakis agency (tel 06610/38 690, fax 26 555) runs the hydrofoil service to Pax?and Igoumenítsa, as well as tours to Albania, Párga and other Ionian islands, which it sells at much cheaper rates than the travel agents in the resorts.

Cars can also be rented from international agencies at the airport or in town; try Avis, Ethnikís Andistásis 42 (tel 06610/24 404), Budget, Venízelou 22 (tel 06610/49 100; airport tel 06610/44 017) or Hertz (tel 06610/33 547). Among local companies, Sunrise, Ethnikís Andistásis 14 (tel 06610/44 325) rents out cars, and bikes can be rented from Easy Rider, I. Theotóki 128 (tel 06610/43 026), both in the New Port.
